In 1975, Brookshire-Pattison Area Volunteer Emergency Ambulance Corp. was formed by a group of dedicated volunteers.  At that time, 501(c)(3) status was established with the Internal Revenue Service, and is still in effect.  At the present time, we do business as Brookshire EMS, and provide emergency (9-1-1) ambulance service for the City of Brookshire and it’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Our strength is in our personnel.  They will always strive to be the best that they can be and provide the best care that they can provide.  For many years, the organization operated strictly with volunteers. However, in recent years it has become more expensive and more time-consuming to obtain the required training and certification.  As a result, the organization has evolved into one that utilizes both paid and volunteer personnel.  Brookshire EMS is a community-oriented organization and our volunteers and employees participate in many community functions.

We are limited not by our abilities, but only by our resources.  As with many non-profits, Brookshire EMS always needs funding for both routine operating expenses and for special projects.  Presently, our funding comes from several sources, including the following:

** Brookshire EMS charges a fee for service.  However, less than half of those fees are paid and our services are provided regardless of ability to pay.

** The City of Brookshire provides part of our funding.

** Part of our funding comes from donations.  Because we are a non-profit organization and have 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service, donations to Brookshire EMS are tax-deductible.

** Part of our funding comes from fundraising events.  Recent events include a raffle, a silent auction, a salad lunch, and the sale of smoked ribs.

** We also active seek grants and other funding sources.  Recently, we were successful in obtaining funding from Texas Department of State Health Services for a new ambulance.  We also received funding through a General Mills program for the purchase of CPR training equipment.

If you are interested in volunteering, supporting our fundraising events, making a donation, or simply have questions about Brookshire EMS and our operations, please contact us at  281-934-1275.  We will be glad to answer your questions or provide you with additional information.

Brookshire Celebrates Juneteenth

VIEW PHOTOS

Brookshire celebrated its 18th annual Juneteenth Festival. The festivities began June 19th with the Juneteenth Youth Summit.  Later that night everyone gathered in the Convention Center for the Gospel Praise Explosion that featured various Church Choirs, Music Groups, Soloists and Praise Dancers.
On Saturday, June 20th, the celebration continued with Mayor Joseph Vaughn leading the parade through Brookshire. This year we were happy to see some new faces in the lineup, such as Cerda*Fied Specialists pulling a trailer displaying their beautiful Wrought Iron work, and Stephens Flowers Funeral Services that are new to our area.  We were happy to see Royal High School Marching Band take the time out of their summer to join in.  A BIG Thank You goes out to Chief Prejean and the Brookshire P.D. for helping with traffic control.
After the parade, everyone found their way to Hovas Park for a full day of fun. The water park was open and a rock wall was brought in to climb.  We were happy to see more booths this year….lots of variety from which to select.  We were happy to have Ms. Willie Mae Jenkins, an area author, promoting her new book, “My Calling.”
We would like to thank everyone who helped and participated in making this another great success again this year.

Largest Crowd Ever Gathers for Aggie Muster

by Jackie Craver

“The largest crowd ever of Former Students from Texas A&M University gathered together in Waller County on April 21 for the annual Texas Aggie Muster in honor of all Texas Aggies who have passed away within the last year,” announced Kay Woodley, Class of ‘78, and Susan Hopkins, Class of ‘77, 2009 Muster Chairs.

Various Muster activities, including reliving the Memories of Texas A&M by Former Students Byron Wehner, Class of ‘39; Edmondy “Dusty” Turner, Class of ‘46; Sam Estes, Class of ‘59; Charlie Menke, Class of ‘64; Betty McCormick, Class of ‘81; Victoria Jozwiak, Class of ‘91 and Lewis “JR” Schiel, Jr., Class of ‘03.

The evening began with the Aggie War Hymn, the invocation given by Tom Finch, Class of ‘77, and the Muster Tradition by Dr. James Woodley, DVM, Class of ‘68. Following dinner at Repka’s, in a Texas A&M decorated room, Michael Diezi, Class of ‘74, introduced the evening’s guest speaker, Larry Cooper, Class of ’77. Mr. Cooper is the Director of Marketing for The Association of Former Students at Texas A&M University.

The Texas Aggie Muster tradition spans over a century and was observed in more than 300 locations around the world. These Muster gatherings are held in many unique places ranging from battleships and foxholes during World War II to ballrooms and steakhouses.  Over the years, Aggie Muster has grown to be one of Texas A&M’s most revered traditions.  Muster honors the memory of A&M men and women whose death prevents them from answering Roll Call at Muster.  “Roll Call for the Absent” was read by Odis K. Styers, Class of ‘08.

The Roll Call, a roster compiled of all former and current students who have died over the past year, was read by Stan Kitzman, Class of ‘88.  As each name was called, a friend or family member answered “Here!” symbolizing that their memory lives on in the hearts of Aggies everywhere, and a candle was lit in their memory. Rosemary Gambino, Class of ‘83, read the traditional “The Last Corp Trip.”

Muster is more than just a ceremony; it is a way for Aggies to renew, each year, the loyalty and unity which constitute the foundation of their friendship for each other and love and devotion for their school. Matthew Bettis, Class of ’08 read “In Memoriam” and in closing Matt Menke, Class of ’98, lead “The Spirit of Aggieland.”

The evening also included the election of new officers for the Waller County A&M Club, presented by Robbie Peterson, Class of ‘96.

Many thanks to everyone on the program; to Barbara Repka, and the entire staff at Repka’s for a wonderful meal & A&M cake; to Dr. Jim & Kay Woodley for the flower arrangements; to Victoria Jozwiak of The Verandah for the maroon and white table linens; to Laurie Bettis for preserving the evening in pictures, and to attended and who made this year’s Muster so very special!
