Brookshire Freedom Festival 2008

The Freedom Festival is a yearly event that occurs each year around the 4th of July.  Friday June 27th all the cookers set up their smokers and the race was on.  Beside the BBQ cook off there was a pie bake-off  and even some good ole fun that included a cow chip throwing contest.

Saturday the day was filled with lots of activities and other contest.
Cooking Groups were:
Ray's Smokin' Grill, represented by Ray Alexander, Clint Richards, Rick O'Neal, and Bobby Smithson
The Rowdy Roughnecks were Bobby and Cindy Smithson and Michael and Robin Moore.
The TP Cookers were Patsy and Karen Hillhouse and T.J. Divin
The Pit Crew were Susie Taylor, John Casey and Chris Paddock

Walt and Myrna Jahnke presented trophies to Ray's Smokin' Grill for 1st place ribs.  The Rowdy Roughnecks for 1st place brisket.  The TP Cookers 1st place with their Chicken and beans. The Master Chef award was presented to the TP Cookers.

For the pie bake-off Sandy Richards came in 1st place.  2nd place was Junett Holcomb, and 3rd Devon and Darrell Morris.

The best Cow Chip thrower was Warner Preston followed by Terri Ostward, Matthew Kleeman-Young. 
Now you know the children had to get in on this.  Darrell Morris came in 1st, 2nd place went to Devon Morris, and 3rd Kiah Wood.
