In 1975,
Brookshire-Pattison Area Volunteer Emergency Ambulance Corp. was formed by a
group of dedicated volunteers. At that time, 501(c)(3) status was established
with the Internal Revenue Service, and is still in effect. At the present time,
we do business as Brookshire EMS, and provide emergency (9-1-1) ambulance
service for the City of Brookshire and it’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Our strength is in our personnel. They will always strive to be the best that they can be and provide the best care that they can provide. For many years, the organization operated strictly with volunteers. However, in recent years it has become more expensive and more time-consuming to obtain the required training and certification. As a result, the organization has evolved into one that utilizes both paid and volunteer personnel. Brookshire EMS is a community-oriented organization and our volunteers and employees participate in many community functions.
We are limited not by our abilities, but only by our resources. As with many non-profits, Brookshire EMS always needs funding for both routine operating expenses and for special projects. Presently, our funding comes from several sources, including the following:
** Brookshire EMS charges a fee for service. However, less than half of those fees are paid and our services are provided regardless of ability to pay.

** The City of
Brookshire provides part of our funding.
** Part of our funding comes from donations. Because we are a non-profit organization and have 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service, donations to Brookshire EMS are tax-deductible.
** Part of our funding comes from fundraising events. Recent events include a raffle, a silent auction, a salad lunch, and the sale of smoked ribs.
** We also active seek grants and other funding sources. Recently, we were successful in obtaining funding from Texas Department of State Health Services for a new ambulance. We also received funding through a General Mills program for the purchase of CPR training equipment.
