The Royal FFA needs your help!

Due to circumstances beyond their control, the Royal FFA students are in need of some extra help this year in the sale of their livestock projects.

Because the new High School is not completed, the Show and Sale will be held at the Waller County Fairgrounds on Friday night at 7:30 PM. Several issues could hinder the sale, including a slow economy and the location and time of the sale. The late-night sale could make for a potentially poor showing for the students at the Auction.

Any of you who can come and participate in the Dinner (5 PM) and Auction will be greatly appreciated by these kids that have worked so hard for this day.

If you are not able to buy an animal please make a contribution of whatever you can afford to the Royal Friends of the FFA. They will combine these contributions and be able to fully support these students that have put a great deal of effort into their animal projects. This is a worthwhile organization and has consistently turned out quality students. To make a contribution to the Friends please contact Jim Meader at 281-794-0314 and he will come to you for your donation. You can also see Nelda at Hard Times Bar-B-Q as well.

Holiday Business Community Mixer at Eve's Garden

This event was held Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Eve's Garden.  Despite the cold weather, there was a great turn out.  EDC Director, Albert Jackson, opened the gathering with a prayer. Next, Mayor Joey Vaughn welcomed everyone and asked them to call him "Joey." He encouraged everyone to introduce themselves to each other since the purpose of the gathering was for the business people and community leaders to come together. 

 

We were happy to see some of our local churches represented in this group. 
Brookshire is blessed to have a community and a group of businesses that wants to see its town heal and grow, and with everyone's help this will be accomplished.

We would like to thank Marla and Joan of Eve's Garden for hosting this event.  Thanks to Colorado Transit for busing everyone to the event and Max their driver who was very courteous to our guest.  Also a big thanks to Teresita's Catering for the wonderful meal.

Royal High School Marching Band headed to the Orange Bowl

The Royal High School Marching Band was selected as the only band to represent the state of Texas in the 2009 Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida.  This is a great opportunity and honor for our students as well as Brookshire, Pattison, and surrounding areas.  Over the past six years, the band students have participated and placed in several competitions, including holiday parades, marching band competitions, and countless community performances, not to mention first place in last year's Martin Luther King Marching Band Competition. 

The band directors are planning fundraisers to assist with the trip, but this performance will need the assistance of the entire community as well as the state to ensure a successful trip for the students.  Monetary donations are greatly appreciated, so we can represent our school and the fine state of Texas at the 2009 FedEx Orange Bowl. Brookshire EDC Honors Mayor Joseph Vaughn at the 2008 Business Mixer

Marilyn Vaughn, President of the Brookshire Economic Development Corporation presented Mayor Joseph Vaughn a plaque that states "In Recognition of your Dedication, Enthusiasm and Loyalty to help Brookshire come together as a thriving honorable community".

4th of July at Hovas - 2008

This was our second year to have "4th of July at Hovas".  This year was bigger and better than last, and we hope it continues to grow.  The crowed enjoyed hot dogs, BBQ, fried fish, rides and the water park.  There was four soccer teams that drew a large crowed.  Then the City office workers squared off with the Public Works department for a volleyball match.  Mayor Vaughn not only cut watermelons for everyone; but he also had a hand in lighting the fireworks display.  We would like to thank the Brookshire VFD and EMS for their support.

Good Luck Friend

Jonathan Woods started working for Brookshire Public Works Department 13 years ago.  He started as a mechanic and worked himself up the ladder to become Brookshire's Public Works Administrator.  He now has moved on to Katy Brookshire Drainage District.  A luncheon was held in his honor Friday, January 18, 2008.  Mayor Joseph Vaughn presented Jonathan a plaque recognizing his many years of contribution to the city.  New Public Works Administrator Zeke Vasquez presented Mr. Woods with a small gift from everyone in their department.

Fort Bend Sr.’s Enjoy Christmas 2007 at Eve’s Garden

The last Wednesday of each month the City of Brookshire sponsors a “Sr.’s Fun Day” at the Brookshire Convention Center.  For Christmas Bob and Joyce Marks donated funds so that the group would have a nice Christmas.  Joan Maresh and Marla Overbeke owners of Eve’s Garden opened their doors for a wonderful Christmas party.  The “Sr.’s” were taken on a tour of the facility, and afterwards were seated in cozy surroundings drinking hot cocoa, warm apple cider and coffee.  The silence was broken by the sound of the Brookshire Volunteer Department siren ushering in Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause.  Fire Chief Gibbs and a volunteer fireman escorted the North Pole couple to the “Sr.’s” where gifts were passed out to each one. Afterwards a banquet style meal was served and of course there was BINGO. 

On behalf of the City of Brookshire and Economic Development Corporation, we would like to Thank EVERYONE for helping make this a wonderful and fun time for our area “Sr.’s”

Open House at the Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department

On Saturday, October 27^th the Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department held an open house. As the community came by the firemen were anxious to show off their new truck and gear.  The young people who came found this to be a very educational event, and the firemen were more than happy to answer all their questions.  Look under Brookshire Photos on the bottom right to see pictures of the event.

The Auxiliary had a chance to show off their new re-hab sign.  This group makes sure that the firefighters have plenty of water and Gatorade on hand during a fire.  They also have fundraisers to help buy equipment for the department.

Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary - New Saw

August 4th the Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary held a bake sale at B & B.  The community showed their support and the sale was a great success.  August 14th the Auxiliary was happy to present the station with a new much needed saw.  Before this the Auxiliary purchased a new radio.  On hand for the presentation were the Volunteer Fireman, Auxiliary members and Mayor Joseph Vaughn.  The VFD would like to extend a thank you to the community for their support, and also to SAMS Club.  If you would like to be a member of this wonderful group please contact Chief Gibbs @ 281-375-5000

New Mayor Sworn In - May 18, 2007

Joey Vaughn was elected Mayor of Brookshire, Texas by the voters on May 12, 2007. Today he is sworn in to his elected position.
