PAHS - Monthly Meeting for November 2011

Update on the Nov. 28th Meeting of the PAHS

There will be also a presentation given by Royal High School's FFA Chapter. Be sure to attend this meeting and not miss this opportunity to help participate listening to their presentation and supporting the local FFA Chapter with your presence.

SURPRISE, SURPRISE, that is what we got from the old pictures that came in for scanning at our September meeting. Some of them are shown on this site. Not only did we preserve some historical photos, but we heard some great stories to go along with them. At our November meeting, we are again inviting you to bring in old photos and historical documents for preserving them. We will scan them at the meeting and then at our next meeting, we will present you with a cd with them in an electronic version for safe keeping. Are your pictures old and crumbling around the edges? All the more reason to come and let us help preserve them. The stories we here while working on the pictures are very interesting. Check out more on the Waller County Historical Society site. Some of the newspapers on this site date back to 1918 and are very fragile. Using the same method we use, these have been preserved. Come out and enjoy the stories with us.

No PAHS Meeting in October - Just Trick or Treating

Last Monday Night of October (10/31/2011) Is HALLOWEEN! BOO!

We are pleased to announce that there will be plenty of scary things to see in Pattison on October 31, the last Monday night of the month and therefore, the PAHS won't be having a meeting so not to confuse the local children of the true identity of the real ghosts, monsters and goblins.

And we will see you Trick and Treating at one of the local Halloween events and/or at our next meeting in November.

September Meeting was the 1st. PAHS "Scan Your Old Photographs"

At the September 26, 2011 meeting a few folks brought some pictures that we have not seen. The purpose of the meeting was to scan and digitally archive the photos that were brought to the meeting to further our mission in preserving the history of our area. Please visit Waller County Historical Society to see all of the pictures and help us identify some of the people.
One picture was of the German Methodist Churches in Pattison with lots of members in attendance. We could use some help with names. One of the buildings in the pictures has been moved several times. Into Pattison and several places before finally landing in Monaville and still serving as a church.  
We hope to have another night of preserving history in the near future. Not only do we preserve history, but just having the people and pictures there bring out stories of our history. Come, enjoy and preserve your history the next time we have a "scan your old photographs" meeting.

We also want to express our appreciation to Peggy and Junior McKay who not only helped advise and gave direction to the PAHS on which scanners to purchase for this ongoing historical preservation project, but they also assisted during the meeting scanning the photographs, too.

Sept 26th. Next PAHS Meeting

Next "Mystery Guest Event" although isn't a mystery any longer (thanks to Truett Bell's request) for the Pattison Area Heritage Society will be Sept 26th, 2011. The "Mystery Guest Event" will be held at the Pattison Area Volunteer Fire Department - Community Room. The event will start at 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

The PAHS monthly "Mystery Guest Night" is held on the last Monday of each month with the exception of May and December, which on these particular months there will not be a monthly meeting.

At the next PAHS meeting to be on Sept. 26, 2011, we are going to have a night of historical preservation. 

 

PAHS has purchased two scanners and will scan your old pictures and historical documents at our meeting. Do you have old photographs or documents that are falling apart? We can scan them for you. Do you have pictures that are stuck to the glass in the frames? We can scan them. We can scan old newspapers and splice them together. We can convert all of the above into digital form for perservation. 

You might want to go to Waller County Texas Historical Commission/Society and check out the photos and papers that are shown on their website which were scanned recently.

We are working out the workflow once the photo/document is scanned and will provide people with a cd of their photos and documents for safe keeping. We are not sure if the CD copy will be made available at the meeting night or if the CD disc(s) will be made ready at the next PAHS meeting. Depends on how many people show up with boxes of stuff to scan.

This is a continual work in progress to preserve history as time keep moving forward.
